Gracious Heavenly Father, we plead for your mercy and strength for the family that experienced a horrific accident in Washington County, Maryland, Monday night. Lord, the layers of sadness are overwhelming. To imagine those twin four-year-old girls chasing their older cousin onto an interstate, only to both be struck down before their mother’s eyes… Lord, the pain is great. We pray for the living sister, who is fighting to recover from her injuries and also the loss of her sister. We pray about the guilt plaguing anyone involved. We pray for those who grieve, particularly asking for extra grace on those who witnessed the event. We pray for investigators as they do their work. We pray for the emergency personnel who handled the devastating scene. Lord, your mercy is needed over all layers of this tragedy. We pray for healing and hope, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we pray for truth to come out regarding the disappearance of 43 teachers-in-training in Guerrero, Mexico, six years ago. As the anniversary of this terrible event is marked, we are thankful Mexican authorities have issued dozens of arrest warrants for police and soldiers whom they believe may have participated in the crime. As people are apprehended and interviewed, we pray for clues and information to come out about this disturbing mystery. Please compel participants to share the truth, relieving themselves of any burdens they have carried. We pray for peace for the loved ones grieving their losses and longing for closure. May 2020 be the year this mystery is solved and justice prevails. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Prayer as Canada attempts to halt a second wave of COVID-19

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-canada/canadas-biggest-provinces-seek-clampdown-on-social-gatherings-as-coronavirus-cases-top-150000-idUSKCN26G2K9

Almighty God, we join in prayer with Canadians as they seek to halt a second wave of coronavirus cases in their country, particularly within their two most populous provinces. With most of the new cases among those aged 40 and younger, we know the people are concerned. We pray for those who have been asked to honor the special measures over the next 28 days to do so whenever and however possible. We pray for people who need medical attention to be able to secure it safely and efficiently. We pray against any tensions that may flare up as people are asked to limit their activities again. Finally, we pray that the government’s significant efforts to secure vaccines for its people will ultimately benefit the entire nation. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Prayer about liquid oxygen shortage in India

                               https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-54139112 PC:AFP

Heavenly Father, we pray about the oxygen shortage in India. With the second-highest Covid-19 cases in the world—climbing daily—India is at a crisis point. May influencers discern how to best manage liquid oxygen supplies. Lord, we know it’s complicated: the pull between industrial and medical needs, the regulation, the desire to preserve resources for your own state even when another state is in a desperate situation, the transportation challenges. These can be overwhelming and complicated concerns, but we know your ways and thoughts are higher than ours and that you can see this all very clearly. We pray for government, medical, and industry leaders to hone in on effective solutions soon. We continue to pray for increasingly effective treatments and a safe vaccine as the world battles Covid-19. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Prayer about unofficial mine collapse in the Democratic Republic of Congo

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-congo-mining/congo-gold-miners-scour-rubble-for-bodies-after-cave-in-idUSKBN2630H2?il=0

Lord God, we feel sick to our stomachs to hear of a gold mine collapsing on 50 miners in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo Saturday. We know the gold mine was informal and the miners unofficial, so there were few, if any, safety measures in place. Lord, we grieve the fact that these mostly young men were buried alive as they strove to make a resourceful living. Please bless the rescue efforts so anyone still living may be pulled from the rubble as quickly as possible. Bless the people who are working so hard to pull their friends and colaborers from this pit of death. Lord, gird their hearts and minds as they process and grieve this horrible experience. May they be able to sleep without terror and eventually move forward in life with hope. Please guide them in any decisions they may need to make about how they provide for themselves and their loved ones. And, Lord, if the DRC government needs to address this common yet dangerous practice, direct them to do so—and to do so effectively. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Prayer about vaccine trials in Brazil

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-brazil-vaccine/brazil-trials-of-sinovac-covid-19-vaccine-show-promising-results-governor-idUSKBN2602O1

Almighty God, we pray about the vaccine trials happening in Brazil. With volunteers trying two potential vaccines and a third slated for trials in coming months, we pray for protection for volunteers. We ask for effectiveness to become quickly clear—that good options will rise to the top and that bad options will be quickly eliminated. With Brazil recording the third-highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, we pray that these trials will help contain the virus. Lord God, we continue to pray for researchers who are working hard and fast to find not only an effective vaccine, but continually more effective treatments for this virus. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Prayer about killing of several children in a German flat

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-54012885 PC: Reuters

Lord God, we feel the despair when we hear of a young woman throwing herself before a train after likely killing several children. What depths of pain drive someone to such terrible acts? We pray for some sort of redemption in this atrocious situation. We pray for the mother, recovering in a hospital from severe injuries. May she be able to communicate soon, and may she fully cooperate with investigators and with doctors. We pray about the long journey she will undergo in order to process and receive justice for what she has done; please meet with her somewhere along the way. We pray for the 11-year-old boy who survived after five younger children around him were murdered. We cannot imagine the depths of healing he will need; we are thankful that you can. Please bring the right people and resources around him to provide hope, care, support and recovery. We pray for emergency responders as they process what they found at the scene. May they, too, receive the care and encouragement they need. We pray for the community as they grieve this event. May your people bring hope in a dark situation. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

We are thankful for the diligent, 30-year effort to eliminate this disease that kills and maims primarily children. We celebrate this tremendous milestone for the continent. May the same be declared regarding COVID-19 in coming years. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
