Lord God, we are both relieved and devastated as the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse releases the results of its Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County investigation. We are relieved that the truth is finally coming out and that genuine, unguarded apologies have begun. We are devastated that the scope of abuse over decades in this area is "in terms of scale, the most shocking we have seen," according to the secretary to the inquiry. We condemn as evil the extensive, prolonged abuse that thrived within this deeply flawed system. We pray that everyone involved in looking the other way, coddling abusers and/or ignoring victims would genuinely repent and seek to make amends in any way possible. Heavenly Father, we pray for the survivors of this terrible sexual abuse, that they would continue to heal, and that the truth coming out would be a significant milestone in their recovery. We pray that current council leaders will soberly and thoroughly evaluate the existing foster care system to make sure children are now being protected within effective, attentive program. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
